Gunung Tujuh Lake is a lake located in Kerinci Regency, Jambi. precisely in Pelompek Village, Kayu Aro District. This lake is located in the area of Gunung Tujuh, a mountain that is directly behind Mount Kerinci. Gunung Tujuh is still included in the Kerinci Seblat National Park area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For mountain climbers, Kerinci may be the main destination because the mountain is the highest active mountain in Indonesia [3805 masl], but for tourists who want to simply enjoy the natural beauty of Kerinci Regency.
Gunung Tujuh Lake is a caldera lake formed by volcanic activity in the past. At an altitude of 1996 m above sea level, this lake is the highest lake in Southeast Asia. The lake is often covered in fog with an average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius. The lake area is ± 960 ha with a length ranging from 4.5 km and a width of 3 km. The lake is surrounded by seven mountains, namely Mount Hulu Tebo (2,525 m), Mount Hulu Sangir (2,330 m), Mount Madura Besi (2,418 m), Mount Lumut overgrown with various types of moss (2,350 m), Mount Selasih (2,230 m), Mount Jar Panggang (2,469 m), and Mount Tujuh (2,735 m).
Gunung Tujuh Lake is known as the Sakti Lake by the people of Kerinci. The lake water always looks clean, and the leaves are not found, even though there are many fallen trees on the edge of the lake. According to local people, strange events often occur, such as sudden changes in the weather. During the opening of the lake area, one of the workers said that the boat he was on was spinning in the middle of the lake for no apparent reason. The local community believes that Gunung Tujuh Lake is inhabited by spirits in human form, named "Lbei Sakti" and "Saleh Sri Menanti", with some of their followers in the form of tigers.
Gunung Tujuh Lake is a source of livelihood for several villagers. There are several cottages on the edge of the lake that are used by fishermen as a place to live. Every day, fishermen fish with boats and wounds, which are installed in the middle of the lake in the morning and removed in the afternoon.The boat used is made of one whole log with a diameter ranging from 30-40 cm. With such workmanship, this log is shaped like a boat.
The wounds used by fishermen are made of woven bamboo blades. This wound is tied in the middle of the rope. At the end of the rope is tied a drink bottle (a type of mineral water bottle) and a stone at the other end as a ballast. This lake is located in Pelompek Village, Kayu Aro District, at a distance of ± 56 km from the Full River. To enjoy the beauty and cool air of Lake Gunung Tujuh, visitors must walk through the trail for 2-3 hours.
