The allure of Indonesia's natural beauty, which stretches far and always makes the audience yearn. Talking about Indonesia's natural wealth will never end. The many islands in Indonesia make us want to explore and enjoy them a little. One of them is the Bangka Belitung archipelago, which is famous for its beautiful beaches with clear blue water and exotic rocks.

Located at the coordinates of North 2°44,343 – East 108°25,304 with a water depth of 0-18, Merak Island has fine white sand combined with blue sea water as clear as glass.  The beautiful beach is decorated with strands of coconut trees on the coast.  As in other areas of Belitung, the giant granite stones add to the exoticism of the beach. Even more exciting, the island, which is still in Manggar District, East Belitung, offers the beauty of the underwater world with its coral reef gardens.  That's why Silver Island began to get visits from divers who first found out the secret of this hidden paradise.

The waters around the island of Merak are ideal for diving due to their clear water. It is about 15 meters long in the sea. You can easily see the underwater beauty, which is inhabited by coral reefs, sponges, anemones, and various colorful fish and marine animals. Besides diving, you can also snorkel to enjoy this beauty.

The best snorkeling and diving spots on Merak Island are in the north, east, and west. Don't forget to bring your own snorkeling or diving equipment because the facilities are still limited.  Try to wear booties, because there are sea urchins between the corals.

If you're lucky, you can see turtles coming up to the mainland to lay their eggs.  This usually occurs during the dry season.  If you are very lucky, you can see hatchlings, aka baby turtles that have just hatched, "race" to the sea where they will grow up. One day, the adult baby turtles will return to Merak Island to lay their eggs.

When you set foot on the beach, you will feel like you are on a private island.  Yes, because this island is very quiet.  There is only one building inhabited by an island guard.  So, make sure you bring your own food and drink supplies if you don't want to be thirsty and hungry.

How to Get There

The route to Merak Island starts in the capital city of Manggar. From there, you can rent a motorboat and travel for about an hour and a half.  Along the way, you will never feel bored. How not? The turquoise sea water and the small hills that are visible in the distance are so indulgent to the eyes of those who look at them. The breeze and bright sunshine make everything perfect.

When you reach the island, the motorboat will stop.  This boat can't get too close to the shoreline. The pier has been damaged and can't be used to dock ships. So, let's just say you splash a little to play in the water.  But if the sea is receding, the boat should stop a bit in the middle.  Take it easy. Usually, on the boat, there is a canoe that can be used to reach the beach.
